Over the past ten years I've been having fun releasing a series of solo drumming recordings that, in some cases, also include shakuhachi or bass, as well as a release featuring Phil Slater on trumpet and Carl Dewhurst on guitar.

As we move towards 2020, I thought I'd put out a compilation of tracks that, to me, best represent ideas that I've been developing and exploring throughout the last decade. Hope you enjoy..

Most of this music is deeply tied to barefoot running experiences. The cover pic was taken during the last few kilometres of a 240km run in Japan (running from town to town over a few days), and was one of the most powerful experiences I've had whilst running. I remember standing there staring at the mountains in the distance, feeling an amazing wave of bliss, and wondering what it would be like to just keep running...

Total mastery of patience, time, and drama create a constantly engaging journey that never gets tiresome or same-y: in fact the harder you listen the better it gets! Somehow Sorey et al. find a way to combine the deep listening and spontaneous interaction of the best jazz with the sense of every tone and sound being worth a universe of listening, which could be equally from Cage and Feldman or the accompaniment to an ancient ritual.
